Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Mujib’s Short Autobiography
Sheikh Mujib was a young student leader in the early
stages of East Pakistan politics after India division in 1947. As an advocate
for socialism, he formed a movement against all forms of discrimination against
the people of East Pakistan at that time. In order to establish
the rights of the people, he once proposed a six-point autonomy plan which was
considered as a separatist plan in West Pakistan. Among the six-point demands
was the increased provincial autonomy Because of this, he became one of the
oppositions to Ayub Khan's military rule. On charges of conspiracy and
conspiracy with the Indian government, His trial on the charges began in 1968 and
later he proved innocent. In 1990 that election, the Awami League, led by him,
won a huge victory. Yet he was not given the opportunity to form a government. After
Sheikh Mujib's talks with then-President Yahya Khan and West Pakistan
politician Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto about the formation of Pakistan's new
government, Pakistani army conducts massacre in Dhaka city at midnight on 25March 1971. He was arrested that same night and later taken to West Pakistan. Rahimuddin
Khan sentenced him to death in a military court but was not executed. After 9
months of bloody liberation war On December 16, 1971, an independent state
called Bangladesh was established by the surrender of the Pakistan Army to the
Bangladesh-India Joint Forces. On 10 January 1972, Sheikh Mujib was released
from Pakistani prison and returned home and started serving as the first
President of Bangladesh. On January 12, 1972, he introduced the parliamentary
system and took charge of the Prime Minister.

Ideologically he believed in Bengali nationalism,
socialism, democracy and secularism, collectively known as Mujibabad. On the
basis of nationalism, socialism, democracy and secularism despite drafting the

widespread corruption. In 1975, he announced one-party politics to curb rising
